From an early age, Steve was inspired by his father’s dedication as a volunteer firefighter. Tagging along to meetings, washing trucks, and listening to the stories of firefighters sparked a lifelong passion for service and community. In 1978, he joined a volunteer fire department, earning his firefighter certification and EMT credentials. What began as volunteer service soon became a lifelong career—rising through the ranks as Firefighter, Paramedic, Engineer, and ultimately Rural Coordinator. As Rural Coordinator, he oversaw more than 350 volunteers, ensuring they maintained certifications from Wildland Firefighter to Paramedic. His true calling lies in teaching, mentoring, and supporting fire departments —helping teams build skills, confidence, and stronger communities.
